After losing the first test against England on Tuesday by 277 runs, Indian skipper and captain Virat Kohli vowed to give the opposite team “a tough fight” in the remaining three Tests. India was bundled out for 192 while chasing a record 420-run target with England, who has now a 1-0 lead in the four-match series.

India’s loss to England came after its historic win against Australia in January at The Gabba as the Indian captain said his team is ready to fight back. The top-scored with a valiant 72, Kohli, after India’s loss, said, “We are a side that accepts our failures and faults and learns from them.”

In the next three matches, Kohli said, “We are going to give a tough fight and not let things slip away like it did in this Test.”

India was left playing catch up after England rode on skipper Joe Root’s 218, giving the team a mammoth 578 in their first innings. England bowled out India for 337, seizing control of the match with a lead of 271.

While Kohli lauded England’s performance, when he was suggested that tourists look better prepared, he did not agree.

“…We don’t jump the gun or come to conclusions, too early as a side,” Kohli said, talking about when Australia won the first Test in 2017.

Talking about England, the Indian skipper said, “You could say they are well prepared but to say they are better prepared than us in our own conditions is not an accurate assessment.”
