India cricketer Shreyas Iyer, who suffered a shoulder injury during the ODI series against England, underwent successful surgery on Thursday. In an Instagram post, the right-handed batsman provided an update on his health and said “I’ll be back in no time, thank you for your wishes.”

Due to the injury, he not only missed the remainder of the ODI series against England but also was ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. In his absence, the Delhi Capitals captaincy was passed on to young flamboyant wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant for the 14th edition of the league.

The 26-year-old Iyer suffered the injury in the eighth over of the England innings when he dived on a drive hit by Jonny Bairstow off pacer Shardul Thakur.

He looked in tremendous pain as he left the field clutching his shoulder.

BCCI had stated, “Shreyas Iyer subluxated (partially dislocated) his left shoulder in the 8th over while fielding. He has been taken for further scans.”

Talking about how Pant will justify the captaincy, Iyer had said: “When I sustained the shoulder injury, and Delhi Capitals needed a leader for this edition of the IPL, I had no doubt that Rishabh would be the best man for the job.”

“He has all my good wishes to make amazing things happen with our absolutely incredible team. I’m going to miss the team tremendously, and will be cheering for them throughout,” the right-handed batsman added.

The 14th edition of the IPL is scheduled to start April 9.
