The Winter Olympics commenced in Beijing on February 4 with a spectacular opening ceremony. Six medals were handed out to winners on Saturday, starting with Norwegian Johoung. The 33-year-old won the medal after coming first in the women’s cross-country skiathlon event. Natalia Nepryaeva of Russia secured the silver medal, while Austria’s Teresa Stadlober snagged the bronze. By the end of the day, Norway had two gold medals and Slovenia had one gold and one bronze. Netherlands, Sweden, and China bagged a gold medal each.
