Indian skipper Rohit Sharma continued his poor form against Zimbabwe, as he was caught out for 15 runs by Zimbabwe’s Wellington Masakadza. The dismissal means that Sharma has been unable to cross the 20-run threshold for the third consecutive match in the T20 World Cup Super 12 and has faltered against top teams such as Pakistan, South Africa and Bangladesh.

The dismissal came in the fourth over, when Rohit Sharma tried to hit Blessing Muzarabani for a lofted boundary. However, the ball ended up being caught by Wellington Masakadza at the square leg, who did not make any mistakes by helping his side to register the first wicket of the match.

Rohit Sharma has been largely ineffective against top teams in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. He has scored 4, 15, 2 and 15 against the likes of Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in the tournament, however, scored 53 against the Netherlands in the second match.

However, Sharma’s inability to score more against the top teams has resulted in India’s suffering. The onus to score has been on former captain Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav, however, Sharma has been criticised by the fans for his lack of form.

“@ImRo45 you have good captaincy but now a days you failure as a batter. Why always want to hit. Maybe this tournament is last in your career. Please concentrate and play well. You can do it @mipaltan @BCCI @rahuldravid_ind,” one user tweeted.

Some fans also wanted Rohit Sharma to step down as India’s T20I captain after he continued his poor run of form against Zimbabwe.

“@ImRo45 Sir, Step down from T20 captaincy…we are in the World Cup just because of @imVkohli @surya_14kumar,” another tweeted.

However, Rohit Sharma has been India’s best-performing T20I captain in history and will become the captain with the most wins in a calendar year in the shortest format of the game if India wins against Zimbabwe.
