Delhi Capitals’ skipper Rishabh Pant, on Sunday, at 24 years and six days became the youngest ever to lead a side in IPL play-offs. The Capitals face the Chennai Super Kings in the Qualifier 1 at the Dubai International Stadium.

Rishabh Pant was handed Delhi’s captaincy after their regular skipper Shreyas Iyer got injured in the first half of the season. However, the IPL was delayed and by the time it resumed Iyer was back in the side, albeit not as a captain. Pant was asked to continue in the leadership role and under the 24-year-old, the 2020 runners up finished top of the points table with 10 wins in 14 games.

While, Pant created the record for being the youngest, his Chennai counterpart MS Dhoni became the second oldest captain in playoffs behind Rahul Dravid (in 2013). The former Rajasthan Royals skipper was 40 years old.

Chennai Super Kings, in the Qualifier 1, won the toss and elected to field.

“We will bowl. Whatever games we have played so far, the guys felt there was a bit of help for the seamers initially, it’s a tough wicket, but it could get better later on. We try to keep it simple, irrespective of any game. We analyse our shortcomings and it has helped us,” MS Dhoni said after winning the toss.
