With the IPL qualifiers into their last legs, the margin for error grows increasingly narrow. With a scramble ensuing for the final qualifying spot, tonight’s clash between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals has the air of a knockout fixture. DC spinner Kuldeep Yadav is under no illusions of what is required. Speaking to NDTV, he was forthright in his assessment:

“This is a do-or-die situation for us. We have performed well in the tournament, but we have lost some close games. We have to make sure that we don’t repeat the mistakes we have committed in the competition so far.”

Delhi has been erratic on their outings, alternating between wins and losses over the past few games. Consistency has been severely lacking in the Capitals, but the wrist-spinner believes they are ready. “We have prepared well for our next match. We are considering the game as a knockout match for us. It will be important for us to get off to a good start, whether we bat or bowl first. It’ll also be crucial for us to assess the conditions well”, he added.

Curiously, PBKS’ formbook indicates a similar pattern to Delhi’s. However, after a strong showing against RCB, PBKS are likely to be in good spirits. While Delhi trounced Punjab by nine wickets in the reverse fixture, Kuldeep knows better than to underestimate any opposition. “Punjab Kings are a good side. There are a lot of good players in the team. They batted very well in their last match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. There’s no weak team in T20s. Anybody can put up a big score or take wickets on any given day”, he warned.

The Chinaman bowler has been among the pick of the bowlers in the IPL, with 18 dismissals in 12 matches. With the season veering to its climax, the DC faithful will be hoping that their star spinner delivers the goods over the coming matches.
