Australia’s top order scripted their maiden T20 World Cup win on Sunday and defeated rivals New Zealand after chasing a score of 172. The innings was powered by David Warner and Mitchell Marsh, both of whom scored half-centuries, and were seen rejoicing their win in Dubai.

Marcus Stoinis, who did not get a chance to bat in the final game, said, “This group of boys, we actually love each other. It’s beautiful – this team. I can’t wait to play with this team. I am so proud of them.”

Matthew Wade, who was the star of the match in Australia’s game semifinal clash against Pakistan, said in a statement, “It is huge. first T20 World Cup coming in, felt like a lot of people wrote us off early, but internally we spoke about how we could be the first team to achieve this for Australia. Something really, really special.”

Mitchell Marsh secured the player of the match in Sunday’s post-match presentation after a stroke-filled 77 that fashioned his team’s comfortable eight-wicket win. He said, “Lot of people say this but I really do not have words right now. An amazing six weeks with this group. Coaching staff came up to me in the WI and said you’ll bat three for this tournament.”

Marsh, who was seen roaring after Glenn Maxwell’s winning boundary, added, “It is not often Australia aren’t considered heavy favourites for any trophy, but they weren’t this time. And after the England defeat, the snipers were out. All sorts of questions about the way they have rotated players in T20Is not allowing for consistency, their selections, and everything else. But they have turned it around in style, finding heroes for every occasion.

Maxwell, while speaking after the game, was seen praising Adam Zampa’s performance through the tournament. On Sunday, Zampa maintained an economy of 6.50 while giving away 26 runs in four overs and securing the wicket of Martin Guptill.

Maxwell said, “He has been a superstar in this format as well as one-day cricket for a long period of time. I have had the pleasure of having him at the Stars and watched him grow into the player he is. To watch him bring all his talent straight into international cricket, he’s fitted in so well. In the last 3 years, as a leg-spinner, I don’t think there have not been many better in the world.
