Saquon Barkley sparkled as the New York Giants beat the Chicago Bears 20-12 in a low scoring game at home on Sunday. Barkley rushed 31 times for 146 yards, continuing the golden run that has him pegged as the number 1 running back in fantasy football this season.
The game saw Saquon Barkley also take over and run offense in a wildcat formation, after Giants quarterback Daniel Jones injured his ankle and his replacement Tyrod Taylor soon suffered a concussion.
Daniel Jones scored the only two touchdowns in the game on runs of 21 and 8 yards. He was sacked by Bears safety Jaquan Brisker in the third quarter and, with an ankle injured, lined up as a receiver on some plays and took snaps on some of the final series for handoffs.
“He is the Giants offense. He’s one of our better players,” said Giants coach Brain Daboll on Saquon Barkley’s performance at the quarterback position.
The Giants rushed for 262 yards in the game. Graham Gano kicked 43 and 44 yard field goals.
Chicago Bears kicker Michael Badgley, a back-up for Cairo Santos, kicked four goals.
Chicago had a chance in the last seconds of the game but wideout Velus Jones Jr, debuting for the Bears, fumbled a punt.
This was the first time that the Giants beat the Bears in their last four match-ups.
The Giants are now 3-1, their best start since 2011, when they were 4-0 after Week 4. That year they won the Super Bowl.
They next fly to London to take on the Green Bay Packers.
The Bears are 2-2 and will play the Minnesota Vikings in their next match, also an away game.
