On Saturday, the Miami Dolphins took a significant step as they activated cornerback Jalen Ramsey from injured reserve, setting the stage for his long-awaited season debut against the New England Patriots on Sunday. In a corresponding roster move, the Dolphins released cornerback Parry Nickerson.

Ramsey’s road to recovery began after he injured his left meniscus during the second day of training camp back in July, necessitating surgery the following day. This injury had him placed on injured reserve for the first seven weeks of the season. The activation window for his return opened on October 18, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Miami had anticipated his return for the Patriots game. Ramsey himself acknowledged that there was a “chance” he would play, but emphasized his need to feel “GREAT” before taking the field.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel remained noncommittal on Friday regarding Ramsey’s potential start, as well as that of fellow cornerback Xavien Howard, who is contending with a groin injury. Both players are officially listed as questionable for Sunday’s game. McDaniel stressed the importance of caution when dealing with their star cornerback tandem, considering their value to the team.

McDaniel underlined the communication between the players and the team’s understanding of the consequences of playing when not in top form. The Dolphins have other dependable players who can step in, but they are ideally hoping to have both Ramsey and Howard on the field.

Additionally, the Dolphins ruled safety Jevon Holland out for the game as he remains in concussion protocol, and wide receiver River Cracraft, who began his 21-day activation window on Wednesday, was also listed as out for Sunday’s match.

With a 5-2 record, the Dolphins currently lead the AFC East by a half-game, with the Buffalo Bills close behind. A victory over the Patriots would secure a season sweep of their division rival.
