New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is attempting an unexpected playoff comeback after undergoing ground-breaking surgery in Los Angeles on his ruptured Achilles. 

Rodgers suffered an Achilles injury on his debut for the New York Jets against the Buffalo Bills.

Rodgers’ completely torn left Achilles was treated by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache and his team by inserting an internal brace called an Achilles “speed bridge” on the injured tendon. Although results are not guaranteed, this ground-breaking method adds protection to the repair and increases the possibility of a quick recovery. 

According to those familiar with the surgery, this relatively recent procedure is designed to speed up an athlete’s entire recovery, possibly allowing them to return in as little as four months from what is generally a season-ending injury. Rodgers might get a chance to play again in the middle of January, right before the playoffs begin if the New York Jets make the playoffs.

In addition, Rodgers might consider the option of getting platelet-rich plasma injections, a procedure that Lakers star Kobe Bryant notably underwent in Germany for a knee ailment after ElAttrache healed his Achilles in 2013. Last year, Russell Wilson also chose comparable treatments.

Aaron Rodgers signed a new deal with the New York Jets in July 2023 that guaranteed him $75 million over the course of two years, through the 2024 season. The bonus proration is distributed equally throughout the two option years under the contract structure, resulting in a 2023 cap amount of little under $9 million.

His previous contract included around $110 million in guaranteed income, and this arrangement represented a salary cut of almost $35 million for Rodgers. Nevertheless, Rodgers has stated that he is willing to accept the pay reduction in order to support the Jets in their quest for success.
