Charles Omenihu, a defensive end for the Kansas City Chiefs, has been suspended by the NFL for the first six games of the season due to a violation of the league’s personal conduct code.

Omenihu, who was then playing for the San Francisco 49ers, was arrested in San Jose, California, in January on accusations of domestic assault. A woman, who identified herself to San Jose police as Omenihu’s girlfriend, claimed that he pushed her to the ground.

Omenihu, who signed a contract with the Chiefs this offseason, will be able to participate in training camp practices and preseason contests. He will be eligible to play again in Week 7 of the regular season at Arrowhead Stadium against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Omenihu, 25, joined the Chiefs as a free agent this offseason after spending his first four NFL seasons with the Houston Texans and the San Francisco 49ers. He was a starter for the Chiefs during training camp, but a calf injury kept him out of practice the last two days.

Due to his own suspension, linebacker Willie Gay Jr. missed Weeks 3-6 of the 2022 regular season, making this the second consecutive year that a Chiefs player will miss time due to a personal conduct policy infraction.

Omenihu won’t play for the Chiefs against the Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears, New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings, or the Broncos game if his current suspension is upheld.

In each of the previous two rounds, the Chiefs selected a defensive end in the first round: Felix Anudike-Uzomah from Kansas State last year and George Karlaftis from Purdue in 2022. Chris Jones, the tackle who leads the Chiefs’ defensive line, isn’t in camp because he wants a better contract.
