great Sachin Tendulkar said “a part of me feels lost too’ as
Nightingale of IndiaLata Mangeshkar breathed her last on Sunday at the age
of 92. The legendary cricketer said he is “fortunate to have been part of Lata
Didi’s life”.

“I
consider myself fortunate to have been a part of Lata Didi’s life. She always
showered me with her love and blessings. With her passing away, a part of me
feels lost too. She’ll always continue to live in our hearts through her
music,” Tendulkar tweeted.

Late
Lata Mangeshkar was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital in January as
her health conditions continued to deteriorate after she tested positive for COVID-19
and had a bout of pneumonia.

Tendulkar
also visited the Breach Candy hospital to pay his homage to India’s greatest
singer. The former cricketer also said the iconic singer “will always continue
to live in our hearts through her music”.

Meanwhile,
legendary athlete PT Usha paid a rich tribute to the Bharat Ratna awardee. The
Olympian, who finished fourth at the 1984 Olympics, wrote in a Tweet, “An era
ended today with the sad demise of Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar Didi. We all
have grown up listening to her melodious voice which will echo in our lives
forever. Om Shanti.”

Cricket
star Virat Kohli said he is “deeply saddened to hear about the demise of Lata
ji”. “Her melodious songs touched millions of people around the world. Thank
you for all the music and the memories. My deepest condolences to the family
& the loved ones,” Kohli wrote on Twitter.

India
will observe two day’s national mourning in memory of Lata Mangeshkar. The
national flag will also fly at half-mast for two days, as a mark of respect,
and she will be given a State funeral.

Lata
Mangeshkar was honoured with India’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna,
in 2001. She was also conferred France’s highest civilian award, the National
Order of the Legion of Honour, in 2007.
