A climate activist
set his arm on fire at the site of the Laver Cup tennis tournament at the 02
Arena to protest private jets, Evening Standard reported. The activist, believed
to be the climate activist Kai, stormed into the court, sat down by the net and
then set his arm ablaze, stunning spectators. He then sat still as security
charged towards him and finally apprehending him.

Kai, 20, is a
member of End UK Private Jets, an environmental activist group that says ‘carbon
emissions in 2020 are genocide’. Right after Kai set his arm on fire, End UK
Private Jets posted a video of Kai where he explains why he set his arm on
fire.

“In a few hours’
time I’m going to go to the Laver Cup tennis tournament and set my arm on fire
on the court,” Kai is seen saying in the video which was pre-recorded.

“People are gonna
say stuff like ‘this is horrible’, people in the stadium are going to be
disturbed, and anyone who hears about it is going to be really traumatised,
especially if they’ve had experiences with things like self-harm,” Kai says in
the video.

“Feelings of anger
about this…I think it’s right to feel anger because it’s unjust, people
experiencing suffering.”

“Humanity should
have a responsibility to stop that sort of s**** happening, no one deserves to
experience suffering, especially not young and vulnerable people. If we truly
believe that…the way we act like that’s true is by stopping the climate
emergency as fast as possible,” Kai said.

He added: “Because
right now we’re on a path where hundreds of millions of people are going
through unimaginable suffering which is social collapse, torture, starvation,
drought and war and s**** like that.”

Kai staged his
protest on the opening day of Laver Cup. The tournament will go on till Sunday.
Roger Federer, the Swiss tennis great, is going to play his final professional
tennis tournament at the Laver Cup. He has teamed up with Rafael Nadal, a rival
throughout his career.
