After having proved himself as one of the best football players in the world yet again, Lionel Messi is the cynosure of all eyes. After experiencing defeat in the 2014 final, Argentina’s captain and talisman finally won the 2022 FIFA World Cup to complete his football legacy.

Messi has been trending on social media as well as on the field. Following Argentina’s World Cup victory on Monday, Messi’s touching Instagram post quickly rose to the top of the social media platform’s list of sportsperson posts. On Monday, the post reached 43 million likes, breaking the previous record, which was held by a picture of Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in a frame, with the post of a commercial campaign for a clothing brand used the image of the football legends absorbed in a game of chess.

We demonstrate once again that Argentines when we fight together and united we are capable of achieving what we set out to do. The merit belongs to this group, which is above individualities, it is the strength of all fighting for the same dream that was also the dream of all Argentines… We did it!!!”

The only trophy lacking from Messi’s impressive trophy case, the World Cup, is now in his possession. Messi scored twice in the finals as Argentina defeated France 4-2 on penalties, propelling his team’s impressive run in Qatar. Messi’s path to success, however, was not an easy one as Argentina lost to Saudi Arabia in the World Cup opener by a score of 1-2.

The Argentine footballer now finally has a World Cup, and the most liked post on Instagram.
