Manchester United fans have some good news right before the most anticipated match to date in their league calendar. The Red Devils are set to square off against local rivals and defending Premier League champions Manchester City on Sunday, October 2. United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed in his pre-match interview that forwards Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have resumed training with the squad.

ten Hag has also confirmed that club captain Harry Maguire will be sidelined due to an injury. Maguire did not have a promising run during the international break as England lost to Italy and were consequentially demoted to Tier II of the UEFA Nations League. He also conceded a penalty in the 3-3 draw against Germany.

In the interview, which was held at United Carrington training centre, the Dutch manager said, “Harry Maguire is injured and I think, for the rest, we have some doubts, with Anthony Martial, but he was training all week with the group. So I am really happy with that situation, he’s performing really well in training and makes a good impression. Marcus Rashford has returned to training, so I’m also happy with that.”

He further pointed out that players like Axel Tuanzebe and Brandon Williams are out with long-term injuries and will not be a part of the squad for the upcoming fixture.

On the other hand, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has ruled out defender John Stones from the encounter. Stones suffered a hamstring injury in the aforementioned match against Germany.

While United have suffered two defeats in the six matches they have played this season in the league, City have won all of their seven encounters so far. With City’s latest star signing Erling Haaland in stellar form, having scored 11 goals and provided one assist so far, the defending champions can prove to be too hot to handle for ten Hag’s men.
