The New York Yankees have reportedly acquired All-Star outfielder Joey Gallo from the Texas Rangers. The deal is pending medical reviews. The MLB trade deadline is set at July 30 at 4 PM ET.

Gallo was in the Rangers’ lineup as they took on Arizona Diamondbacks. He was scratched at the last minute and it was immediately reported that it was for non-medical reasons, CBS reports. The deal may have gone down right before the game.

The 27-year-old is hitting .223/.379/.490 (139 OPS+) with six doubles, a triple, 25 homers, 55 RBI, 57 runs, six stolen bases and 4.1 WAR this season. An exceptional right fielder has nine outfield assists this season.

The New York Yankees have lost nine games in the AL East. Per SportsLine, the addition of Gallo increases the Yankees’ playoff chances this season by 2.6%.

Gallo is under team control through 2022, earning $6.2 million this season and arbitration-eligible for next. He won a Gold Glove as a right fielder in 2020. The Rangers player is owed a little more than $2 million for the remainder of this season.

The deal will see Yankees send at least four prospects to the Rangers. Shortstop Josh Smith, second baseman Ezequiel Duran,  second baseman/outfielder Trevor Hauver and right-hander Glenn Otto are likely to travel to Texas, according to a report from ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

The New York Yankees, who have struggled on offense in 2021, are expected to receive a big boost with Gallo’s inclusion. The San Diego Padres were also rumored to be in pursuit of Gallo’s services.
