Javier “Chicharito” Hernández Balcázar came to the rescue just when LA Galaxy were staring at what would have been a disappointing loss. The Mexican striker scored a 61st minute tying goal to help his team draw 1-1 against the Houston Dynamo on Wednesday in Carson.

Chicharito’s header off a pass from Dejan Joveljic was his 12th goal of the season and fourth in four games. With this draw the Galaxy are winless in five games. They currently occupy the fourth rung of the points table with 11 wins and 38 points in 24 games.

Fabrice-Jean Picault scored for Houston (4-10-11) in the 13th minute with a sliding shot that rolled in. Houston is winless in 20 away matches, the longest active streak in MLS.

Dynamo, who have not won a road match in 21 fixtures, have recorded the longest active skid of its kind in Major League Soccer.

Hernandez had missed more than two months of action due to a calf injury. He had one more chance in the 88th minute off another header but missed wide. Houston’s Matias Vera failed to convert a close-range shot in the second half.

Los Angeles has not won a home game since August 4. On Wednesday, they had four shots on goal and logged 64% of the possession. Houston could manage only two shots on target.
