Jameson Williams plays for the Detroit Lions in the National Football League (NFL) as a wide receiver. He was selected in the first round of the NFL draft by the Lions who traded up to the 12th overall pick to snag his services.

Williams was born on March 26th, 2001, and grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated from Cardinal Ritter College Prep High School and played for their football team. In his junior year, Williams caught 36 passes for 1,062 yards and 15 touchdowns and returned three kickoffs for touchdowns. He was named an Under Armour All-American after finishing his senior season with 68 receptions for 1,626 yards and 22 touchdowns.

The now 21-year-old was rated a four-star football prospect and committed to play at Ohio State at the start of his college career. In his 2 years with the ‘Buckeyes’, Williams played in 22 games starting in 6 of those and totalled 15 receptions for 266 yards and 3 touchdowns. Notably, in the 2021 Sugar Bowl, Williams scored a touchdown on a 45-yard reception against Clemson.

At the end of his second season at Ohio, he announced that he would be transferring to Alabama Crimson Tide. In his solitary season with the Crimson Tide, he started in all 15 of their games- finishing second in the team for receptions with 79 through the season, and also substantially leading the wideouts with his unparalleled 1572 receiving yards.  With an average of 19.9 yards per reception, Williams also nailed 15 touchdowns throughout the season. His performances did not go unrecognised, as he was named a first-team Associated Press All-American, first-team All-SEC receiver and Co-SEC Special Teams Player of the Year, as well as a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, which honours the season’s top receiver in the country. He suffered a disappointing end to the season, however, when he tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the 2022 College Football Playoff Championship game.

Being a natural athlete, he ran track events in high school too, winning back-to-back Class 3 state titles and even setting a state record in the 300m hurdles, Jameson is blessed with genuinely explosive speed that can be a potentially lethal weapon for any NFL offence. On the other hand, a somewhat slight frame can be cause for worry, especially when he comes up against the burlier, more physical cornerbacks.
