Throwing three of his four touchdown passes in a 28-point second quarter, quarterback Matthew Stafford helped Los Angeles Rams trounce an injury-plagued and error-prone New York Giants side 38-11 on Sunday.

Stafford threw touchdown throws of 3 and 13 yards to Cooper Kupp, his top target. He also had a 15-yard touchdown pass to Robert Woods and a 25-yard touchdown pass to Darrell Henderson.

Stafford completed 22 of 28 throws for 251 yards in three-plus quarters, giving him 16 touchdown passes in six games. In a game against New York, the Rams (5-1) took advantage of two short fields supplied by their defence for easy touchdowns (1-5).

Kupp, who entered the game tied for second in the league with 37 catches, added nine additional catches for 130 yards. Taylor Rapp, a safety, had two interceptions, accounting for half of Los Angeles’ four turnovers.

The Rams beat the Giants for the third time in five seasons, with Henderson scoring on a 2-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and Matt Gay kicking a 32-yard field goal.

Daniel Jones began as quarterback for the Giants a week after suffering a concussion in a defeat to Dallas. On the first series, he guided the offence to a 27-yard field goal by Graham Gano, but the Rams intercepted him three times and recovered a fumble on a strip-sack by Ogbonnia Okoronkwo.

In the absence of running back Saquon Barkley and receiver Kenny Golladay, Jones finished 29 of 51 for 242 yards. On the first series, playmaking rookie wide receiver Kadarius Toney (ankle) went down, contributing to New York’s 261 yards of offence, most of which came late.

The Rams blew the game open in the second quarter after being stopped on their opening two series. Stafford’s touchdown pass to Woods concluded a 66-yard drive. Kupp’s fourth-down TD reception on a 12-yard possession came as a result of Jones’ strip-sack. After Rapp’s interception return to the Giants 14, Henderson scored on a touchdown run.
