It seems there
is something new to learn everyday, even if it may seem like something we have
known all our lives. Something like how we pronounce the name of one of the
best tight ends in the NFL, Travis Kelce.

People tend
to know everything about their favourite athletes, but it seems Kelce fans are
in for some tough news. The Super Bowl champion’s name isn’t pronounced as “Kel-see”,
as people have been saying since he was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in
2013. On Wednesday, the 31-year-old dropped the bombshell that it is actually pronounced
as “Kels”.

During a podcast
with Barstool Sports, Kelce said everyone says his name incorrectly. “I got
‘Kel-see’ then I got ‘Kels.’ My real name is ‘Kels,’ so I mean I just kind of
roll with the punches,” he said.

Even his
Chiefs teammates, including quarterback Patrick Mahomes, wide receiver Tyreek
Hill
and running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, were among those who have been saying
his name wrong as they revealed their surprise on social media.

“You learn something
new everyday,” Mahomes tweeted.

“So I’ve
been saying his name wrong this entire time,” Hill said in reply to Mahomes’
tweet. “Bro he never corrected us once,” Mahomes replied.

Kelce,
however, replied to this thread and said that he has grown used to the wrong pronunciation
of his name and considers it a nickname. “you’ve been saying it right man, I go
by both…. One’s my real name and one’s a nick name,” he said.

of Kelce’s name.

Here are some other reactions:

during his playing days.

Kelce has tried to correct the way his name is
pronounced earlier, in the run up to the 2020 AFC Championship vs Titans.

Meanwhile,
Fox4 quoted Kelce’s mother clarifying that the name is pronounced “Kel-see”.
