The Browns lost the game to the Steelers by 26-22 on Monday Night Football. The injury happened after Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick’s low tackle, combined with pressure from another defender, resulted in an unnatural bend of Chubb’s knee. Following the replay, Steelers supporters cheered his name and gave him a standing ovation as he made his way to the locker room to show their support.

The Browns quickly declared him out as a result of Chubb’s knee injury. Chubb’s backup Jerome Ford scored on the next play after coming to the field. Due to Chubb’s injury, Jerome Ford will likely be in charge of the ground game for the balance of the year.

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed the news following the game that Chubb’s season has been cut short due to the “significant” knee injury. The same left knee was involved in a serious injury Chubb had while playing for Georgia in college during the 2015 season. Later, he returned for Georgia’s 2016 and 2017 campaigns before the Browns selected him in the second round of the draft.

Chubb is a key component of the Browns’ offense and is regarded as one of the best running backs in the NFL. He had a career-high 1,525 running yards and 12 touchdowns in the previous season.

He showed his talent this season by rushing for 106 yards on 18 carries in the Browns’ game against the Cincinnati Bengals in the season opener. He got 64 yards on 10 carries on Monday night, but this promising start was unfortunately cut short by an injury. Chubb is currently in the second year of a three-year, $36 million contract with the Browns, and his road to rehabilitation will be difficult.
