Nyheim Hines will miss the whole 2019 season due to a knee injury that occurred “off-site”, reported Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

At the 2022 NFL trade deadline, Hines, 26, was moved by the Indianapolis Colts to Buffalo in exchange for running back Zach Moss. This offseason, a new contract between the Bills and Hines was also reached.

When will Buffalo Bills running back be fit to play again?

According to NFL Network, Hines sustained a knee injury away from the team’s facility and will be out for the whole 2023 season.

Hines provided the Bills with one of their most memorable plays last season when he returned the opening kickoff for a score just six days after the Monday night game in Cincinnati had to be called off due to Damar Hamlin’s on-field breakdown. Later in the same game, Hines scored on a kickoff return for another touchdown.

In 2018, the Colts selected Hines, who was later traded to the Bills. The Bills hoped that he would be more active in the offence this year despite the fact that he didn’t play much on offence but had a significant influence on special teams. He won’t play at all this year, instead.

Following a November trade from the Colts, he played in nine games for the Bills last year, recording six rush attempts, 53 receiving yards, and one touchdown catch. In the team’s victory over the Patriots in Week 18, he returned two kickoffs for scores.

This season, Hines was expected to be Buffalo’s leading kickoff and punt returner. Along with Latavius Murray, Damien Harris, and James Cook, Buffalo has a strong running back group for 2023.

Hines was part of the remodelling the Bills underwent at the running back position after they acquired him at the trade deadline the previous year. After parting ways with Zack Moss and Devin Singletary, they added Harris and Murray to the starting lineup alongside Hines and Cook. Hines didn’t play a significant role in the offence in 2022, but his performance in the spring put him in the running to start this season as Cook’s backup.

Hines, an NC State product who was selected in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draught, has 1,202 rushing yards, 1,778 receiving yards, and 18 offensive touchdowns in 81 games.

His most fruitful offensive year was in 2020 with the Colts, when he carried for 380 yards and hauled in 63 catches for 482 yards.

Two punt and two kick returns for touchdowns in Hines’ career.
