Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday rejected the $188 million offer from Real Madrid for striker Kylian Mbappé. PSG sporting director Leonardo announced that they had turned down Madrid’s offer, but added that the club is willing to negotiate.

Leonardo told French broadcaster RMC Sport that the offer Madrid had made was below PSG’s expectations. He said that Kylian Mbappé wants to leave and PSG won’t stop him, but a deal will only be made on the club’s terms.

“Kylian Mbappé wants to leave, that seems clear to me. If Real Madrid makes an offer, that seems clear. I am giving a position which, I think, is clear for everyone. We can’t, in the last week of the transfer window, change our plans. If he wants to leave, we aren’t going to keep him, but it’s under our conditions,” Leonardo said.

Surprisingly, this is the first time that PSG has said that Mbappé wants to leave. Until now, the club had maintained that the player was not up for sale and that they wanted to extend his contract. Mbappé’s contract with PSG ends in 2022, and the club may not get anything if they do not accept an offer now.

Leonardo said that Mbappé has promised PSG that he would never leave the club for free. He said that the club had verbally said no to Real Madrid’s offer. “The offer is very far from what Kylian represents at the moment.”

PSG had signed Mbappé from Monaco in 2017. They had shelled out $211 million for the 22-year-old France striker.

Mbappé, who was yet to speak publicly about the Madrid offer, appeared hesitant to reach a new deal with PSG recently, knowing that he would be free next year.

Even Real Madrid haven’t confirmed about the offer they made for the PSG striker. Mbappé has been on the radar of the Spanish powerhouse for a long time.
