Major League has got its player of the year and he is none
other than the Los Angeles Angels two-way sensation Shohei Ohtani.  Ohtani was voted player of the year and the
American League outstanding player by fellow players in the league during the
annual Players Choice Awards from the Major League Baseball Players
Association.

Outfielder Bryce Harper of the Philadelphia Phillies was chosen
as the National League outstanding player, the union said on Thursday.

Infielder Marcus Semien of the Toronto Blue Jays was
selected as the Marvin Miller Man of the year. The award is given to a player
whose leadership inspires others.

Mark Belanger was given the Curt Flood Award for the advancement
of players’ rights and devotion to the union. Belanger, a former big-league
shortstop, was the first former player hired by the union. He died in 1998.

Robbie Ray of the Blue Jays bagged the American League
outstanding pitcher award whereas the National League outstanding pitcher award
went to Max Scherzer of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The first baseman and outfielder for the Baltimore Orioles,
Ryan Mountcastle was picked as the outstanding American League rookie whereas the outstanding
National League rookie award went to Jonathan India, the second baseman for the
Cincinnati Reds.

Outfielder and first baseman Trey Mancini, who plies his trade with the Orioles, won the American
League comeback player Award after returning from colon cancer, and catcher
Buster Posey of the San Francisco Giants won National League comeback player
after opting out of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic and adopting
premature twin girls.
