NFL player Jonathan Owens faced criticism online recently after revealing how he first met Simone Biles. Fans took issue with the Green Bay Packers safety asserting that he was the ‘prize’ in their relationship and admitting he had no prior knowledge of the Olympic gymnast.

The popular couple, Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens, garnered attention from the public since they started dating in 2020. Their consistent social media presence and affectionate displays left fans wanting to know more about their relationship.

However, disappointment arose among Biles-Owens supporters when the 27-year-old NFL player shared the story of how he met Simone Biles in a podcast interview with The Pivot. Owens disclosed that he was unaware of Biles’s Olympic accomplishments before meeting her and mentioned that it was Biles who initiated their conversation.

Describing his first impression, Owens said, “The first thing that I saw was that she just had a bunch of followers, so in my mind, I was like okay she gotta be good.” He also revealed that Biles drove 45 minutes to spend time with him, leading to questions about whether he was the real ‘catch.’ Owens cheekily admitted that he was, accompanied by laughter from Biles during the interview.

However, Owens’s remarks did not sit well with online fans.

The connection between Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens blossomed during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 when the two athletes had ample time to get to know each other amid widespread lockdowns. According to Daily Mail, Biles’s sister Adria encouraged her to reach out to Owens.

The couple eventually met, including their pet dogs, and went Instagram official in August 2020. After two years of dating, Owens proposed to Biles on February 15, 2022. In May, the couple celebrated their wedding in Cabo, Mexico, surrounded by friends and family.

Following the marriage, the newlyweds faced a long-distance challenge due to Jonathan Owens’s new NFL contract with the Green Bay Packers. Owens had moved from the Houston Texans to Green Bay, requiring him to live there for team training. Despite the distance, the couple manages to stay connected by visiting each other on weekends and match days.
