In less than 30 seconds of their main-card fight at UFC On ABC 5 today, Justin Tafa was struck in the eye by Austen Lane, and a doctor later declared him unable to continue, leading to a no-contest judgement.
Round One:
Tafa stalks Lane early but is quickly taken down by a powerful body kick.
After missing a straight right, Lane lunges out with his left hand, pokes Tafa in the eye, and Tafa cries out in pain.
He is given some time to heal, but he is bleeding from his eye and appears to be experiencing vision issues. The referee is allowing him plenty of time to rest, and he is currently seated on the stool, but the doctor doesn’t appear confident in his ability to carry on.
With only two minutes left in his rest period, Tafa’s eye is a complete mess, his lower eyelid is severely inflamed, and it is clear that this fight won’t go on.
And with that, the fight comes to a stop after only 29 seconds due to the doctor’s advise and the terrible eye poke.
