Day 12 had a disappointing start for India at the Tokyo Olympics as the men’s hockey team lost against world champions Belgium in the last-four stage by 2-5. This put a halt to India’s dream of reaching the Olympic finals after 41 years. However, the side is still on for a bronze medal in the games. India will be competing for bronze against the losing team from the second semi final between Australia and Germany on Thursday.

Annu Rani failed to qualify for the finals in the Women’s Long Throws Qualification — Group A. Ran registered a throw of 50.35m in her first attempt. Soon after, she was placed  at the ninth spot. Unfortunately, she slipped to the 14th spot after her second attempt that registered at 53.19m. Annu Rani’s final attempt registered a throw of 54.04m as the Qualification Group A ended.Poland’s Maria Andrejczyk qualified for the final in the game.

India’s Sonam Malik was beaten by Mongolia’s Bolortuya in Women’s 62kg freestyle wrestling. She pushed Bolortuya out of the ring in the first period to take the lead by 1-0. Bolortuya crushed Sonam in a takedown during the last 30 seconds as she attacked Sonam’s right leg.

India will begin Day 13 with the following players taking the mantle and giving hope to millions in the country.
