After kicking off with the opening ceremony on July 23, the Tokyo Olympics has bloomed in its full glory even amidst a raging pandemic. Come July 30, a long list of athletes will be representing India in many sports, including archery, sailing, athletics, golf, and boxing.

For Team India, the seventh day of the sporting gala started off with a bang as Atanu Das, in Hollywood fashion, managed to pip South Korean archer Oh Jin-Hyek in a one-arrow shootout. With the win, Das has now made his way into the Round of 16. PV Sindhu too marched into the women’s singles quarters in dominant fashion.

In boxing, Satish Kumar had a win in the heavyweight category while the men’s team won its Pool A against Argentina in hockey.

But on Day 8, a lot more high-intensity action will be on display as Indians complete multiple disciplines.

The day will start with Indian golfers Udayan S Mane and Anirban Lahiri taking the course early on in men’s individual stroke play. Meanwhile, the qualifications for women’s 25-metre pistol will carry on with Rahi Sarnobat and Manu Bhaker hoping to push India into the finals.

Coming to archery, after an iconic showing from Atanu Das, Deepika Kumari will take on Russia’s Ksenia Perova in women’s individual pre-quarters.

In sailing, while Nethra Kumanan will represent India in women’s one person dinghy race, Vishnu Saravanan will compete in the men’s division. The men’s team will also be taking part in the skiff race.

Meanwhile, Avinash Mukund Sable will kick off the Tokyo Olympics journey of India’s athletics contingent in the men’s 3000m steeplechase. Jabir Madari Palliyalil will be representing the country in men’s 400m hurdles.

Team India will also be taking part in the 4x400m relay mixed race tomorrow.

In hockey, while the men’s team will take on Japan in their final group stage match, the women’s team will have to overcome the Ireland challenge.

Simranjit Kaur Baatth and Lovlina Borgohain will represent India in boxing in the women’s lightweight and welterweight divisions respectively.

In badminton, PV Sindhu will square off against Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi in the women’s singles quarter-finals.
