Indian wrestler Seema Bisla, on Friday, crashed out of Tokyo Olympics after her repechage chances drowned with Tunisian Sarra Hamdi’s loss.  Hamdi lost to Azerbaijan’s Mariya Stadnik in the women’s freestyle 50 kg event. 

Earlier, Bisla lost to  Sarra Hamdi in her opening round – 1/8 final – at the Tokyo Olympics. The final Indian women’s wrestler in the fray, Bisla, was defeated 1-3.

A slow match saw Hamdi take one point in the first half against Bisla’s nil. The Indian was handed a passivity penalty. The second half saw the Tunisian race to a 2-0 after pushing her opponent out of the mat. Bisla, 29, was handed another passivity penalty. However, she managed to score her first point by pushing Hamdi out with a leg hold. The score was 2-1. 

Sarra Hamdi finished the game by executing a push and scoring the last point of the match.

The Rohtak grappler had not even won a national event till 2017 but went on to secure her berth for the Games by winning the World Olympic Qualifier, held in Sofia in May.

Meanwhile, India’s Gurpreet Singh failed to finish the men’s 50km race walk event of the Olympics, pulling out after the 35km mark due to cramps under hot and humid conditions. The 37-year-old, one of the lowest-ranked athletes in the event, was 51st at the 35km mark with a time of 2 hr 55 minutes and 19 seconds but dropped out just after that.

The Indian women’s hockey team lost to Great Britain 4-3 in the bronze medal match. 

On Thursday, India won a bronze medal when the men’s hockey team came from behind to beat Germany 5-4. Simranjeet Singh (17th, 34th minutes) scored a brace, while Hardik Singh (27th), Harmanpreet Singh (29th) and Rupinder Pal Singh (31st) were the other goal-getters for India.

Germany’s goals were scored by Timur Oruz (2nd), Niklas Wellen (24th), Benedikt Furk (25th) and Lukas Windfeder (48th).

Wrestler Ravi Dahiya lost to Zavur Uguev of the Russian Olympic Committee to win a silver medal. The 23-year old became the 1st Indian male grappler to win an Olympic medal since 2012
