The Tokyo Paralympics will come to a
close on Sunday after 13 days of frenetic
competition. After the final round of competitions including men’s
and women’s marathon, a customary closing ceremony will be held at Olympic
Stadium in Tokyo to mark the conclusion of the multi-sport event this year.

The ceremony will comprise a parade of competitors and
a handover to the Paralympic Committee of France ahead of Paris 2024. The theme
of the ceremony has been announced as “Harmonious Cacophony”. In
regard to it the Tokyo 2020 organizers earlier said: “Paralympic athletes know
that no matter which way the wind blows, its power can be harnessed to move
forward”

“They know that by being brave and spreading their wings,
they can reach extraordinary heights.”

Timings:

The closing ceremony will take place on Sunday, Sept. 5 at
7 a.m. ET (4.30 p.m. IST).

The flame of the Paralympic cauldron will become purple
before being extinguished as part of the ritual, a color chosen by the
International Paralympic Committee and other organizations to symbolise people
with disabilities.

Broadcast Channels: 

The Closing Ceremony will air live on NBC Sports Network.
It will also be streaming live on Peacock.

For Indian viewers, the national broadcaster, Doordarshan,
will live telecast the ceremony on free to dish/free to air (channel No. 77)
and DD Sports. Prasar Bharati YouTube
channel will also carry live streaming.

Flagbearers:

India’s flag-bearer at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games
closing ceremony will be trailblazing shooter Avani Lekhara. Lekhara has made
history by becoming the first Indian woman to win two medals in the same
Paralympics, as well as the first Indian woman to win gold.

The U.S. delegation will be led by Matt Scott
and will lead a group of around 50 American athletes into the stadium. Scott,
a member of the men’s wheelchair basketball team, is competing at his fifth
Paralympics and is on the verge of winning his third career medal.
