Offensive linemen are the biggest and yet most inconspicuous players on the field for many football fans, usually being the center of analysis only when they make a mistake. However, that is not the case with scouts, who know the crucial role that brawlers play.
Despite appearances, offensive linemen are highly skilled, and this year’s class of interior blockers is a great example of that. The 2023 draft class not only has some of the most talented linemen but also some of the safest.

Here are the top 5 interior offensive linemen in the NFL in 2023:
- Peter Skoronski
In 2022, Skoronski was a unanimous All-American at tackle, and as an interior offensive lineman, he was also our unanimous top pick. Although his arm length and girth have been cited as reasons to move him to center or even guard, there is no disputing how impressive his tape is. He should be a top-notch lineman right out of the gate since he is a polished, intelligent blocker with a sophisticated use of hands, outstanding weight distribution, and impressive athleticism.
2. O’Cyrus Torrence
Torrence adapted to the SEC like a fish to water after flourishing for three seasons at Louisiana. He’s not the most nimble guard in the league, but he’s likely the best run blocker in the entire class. He plays with incredible force, effortlessly locking defenders out from his frame and regularly forcing them off the ball. His squatty size and aggressive personality have produced some overpowering film.

3. John Michael Schmitz
Schmitz’s age and positional importance may detract from his game in real life, but make no mistake: the dude can play. He’s a cerebral center with excellent communication skills and the spatial awareness to clear up zones in the run game and find work in pass protection.
4. Cody Mauch
Mauch, a standout tackle at North Dakota State, is expected to shift inside in the NFL. He’s a converted tight end with endless athleticism and body control that most offensive linemen would envy. Though he is still developing in terms of pad level and hand placement, his raw strength and unrivaled nasty streak make him a lot of fun to watch and might help him flourish at guard or center.

5. Joe Tippmann
Tippmann has surged rapidly up draft boards in recent months, and it’s easy to understand why. He’s a taller center with excellent length for the position, but he’s also fairly agile, with excellent lateral quickness and body control when blocking on the move. His spatial awareness and pad level will need to increase, but he has a very high ceiling.
