Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence sustained a left knee injury during the recent 37-20 victory over the Indianapolis Colts. Although there were initial uncertainties surrounding his availability, Jaguars coach Doug Pederson has expressed his expectation that Lawrence will be able to face the New Orleans Saints on Thursday night, pending a pregame workout.
During the week, Lawrence was listed as a limited participant in practice on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Officially, he is designated as questionable for Thursday’s game. Speaking to reporters, Lawrence conveyed his optimism about playing this week, stating, “But of course we’ll have to make that decision on Thursday.”
The Jaguars are hopeful that Lawrence’s pregame workout will go well and that he will be able to take the field this week, according to CBS Sports Lead NFL Insider Jonathan Jones.
Lawrence sustained his injury during a sack in the late fourth quarter of the previous game, and backup quarterback C.J. Beathard replaced him to conclude the match. The Jaguars face the challenge of a short week in Week 7, but head coach Doug Pederson has characterized Lawrence’s status as “day-to-day.”
Pederson referred to a similar situation last year when Lawrence was injured against the Detroit Lions. Lawrence was a limited participant in practice the following week but ultimately started against the Tennessee Titans and threw three touchdowns, leading his team to victory.
Notably, Lawrence has not missed a game in his three years of professional football. In six games this season, the former No. 1 overall pick has a 4-2 record and has thrown for 1,439 yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions, ranking 11th in the NFL for passing yards per game.
As the Jaguars prepare to face the formidable defense of the New Orleans Saints, the progress of Lawrence’s recovery throughout the week’s practice sessions will be closely monitored. In the event that he is unable to play, C.J. Beathard is likely to start at quarterback.
