Walter Davis, a well-known NBA player who had an exceptional career at North Carolina, died on Thursday at the age of 69. As confirmed by his alma college.

Among his many achievements, Davis’s gold medal from the United States’ winning squad in the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal stands out. Apart from his remarkable basketball career, he had a unique familial bond as the uncle of Hubert Davis, the current Tar Heels coach.

He was a fixture with the Phoenix Suns for the bulk of his career, leaving a lasting impression on the team. 

In addition to becoming a two-time member of the All-NBA Second Team and a six-time NBA All-Star, Davis won the coveted NBA Rookie of the Year title in 1978. The Suns retired his jersey number, No. 6, in 1994 in honor of his exceptional services, and in 2004 he was inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor.
