The Indian women’s cricket team began their Commonwealth Games 2022 campaign on a positive note as youngster Shafali Verma played an impressive knock of 48 runs off 33 balls. Verma, who is known for her explosive batting, helped India to get back on track and put up a fight after Smriti Mandhana was sent back after only 24 runs.

Shafali’s innings included nine boundaries, amounting to 36 runs out of her total 48. She also hit three consecutive boundaries against Tahila McGrath, who had to bear the brunt of the 18-year-old’s finesse.

However, while she could not complete the half-century at her maiden Commonwealth Games berth, the Internet reacted positively, congratulating the young Indian opener.
