The Indian Premier League game resumed
its 2021 season in UAE ahead of the T20 World Cup. Defending champions Mumbai
Indians clashed with Chennai Super Kings in the first match after the break.

The men in yellow had a dismal start to the game, losing all of their top order
very early on. Faf Du Plessis and Moeen Ali went out for a duck, Suresh Raina
managed to score four runs and MS Dhoni continued his poor run of form.

However, Ambati Rayudu was unlucky as
he was forced to leave the pitch due to an elbow injury. His arm was struck by
Adam Milne’s delivery which made Rayudu fall on the ground. He ended up leaving
the pitch as a retired hurt.

As per cricketing rules, a batsman
may choose to retire from his innings in case of an injury or feeling unwell. The laws of cricket state that there are two types of retirement.

A batsman may be considered retired-
not out
in which case they can choose to return to batting if they recover
before the end of the innings.

If a batsman is considered retired
out
then they can return to their innings only if the opposing captain does
not object their return.

Chennai Super Kings won the toss
today and opted to bat first, a decision that seemed to backfire very quickly.
Mumbai Indians were without their star men Rohit Sharma (injury concerns) and
Hardik Pandya.

After winning the toss CSK captain
MS Dhoni said, “We will bat first, looks like
I good wicket. Setting a target will be a better option. It’s the same for
everyone. I can’t say if it’s a good break or not. This season, few players
might say they enjoy the break. We’ll try to do the basics right and focus on
the process.”

While MI skipper Kieron
Pollard
said, “We weren’t so sure, so happy
that I lost the toss. “

Youngster Anmolpreet made his debut
for Mumbai Indians.
