Diana Taurasi once again created history on Thursday. With 8:23 remaining in the third quarter against the Atlanta Dream at the Footprint Center, the Phoenix Mercury star became the first player in WNBA history to collect 10,000 career points when she sank a 3-pointer off a screen from roughly 25 feet.

Taurasi was 18 points short of the feat when the game began. The most recent feat in Taurasi’s Hall of Fame career was scoring 10,000 points. In 2017, Taurasi—who is currently in her 19th WNBA season—became the league’s top scorer across all teams.

She became the first player in league history to score 8,000 points in 2018 and 9,000 points in 2021, respectively. The next-closest career scorer is Tina Thompson, who has 7,488 points.

Taurasi is an American professional basketball player for the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA. Phoenix selected her in the first round of the 2004 WNBA draft. Taurasi has won the WNBA Rookie of the Year Award (2004), three WNBA titles (2007, 2009, and 2014), a record five Olympic gold medals (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020), one WNBA Most Valuable Player Award (2009, 2014), five scoring titles (2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011), and three FIBA World Cups (2010, 2014, 2018). Additionally, she has been picked for fourteen All-WNBA teams, including 10 first-team selections, and ten WNBA All-Star teams.
