Dikembe Mutombo, a retired NBA legend, is renowned for his shot-blocking prowess on the court.

The 56-year-old can be spotted spending time with his wife Rose and his large family of children when he is away from the game.

On October 15, the NBA announced that Mutombo is receiving treatment for a brain tumour in Atlanta.

Who is Rose Mutombo?

Former professional basketball player Dikembe Mutombo is Congolese-American. He and his wife Rose have been married since 1996.

Rose is a politician, lawyer, and humanitarian from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

She serves as the national president of the Permanent Consultative Framework for Congolese Women (CAFCO), as well as the Lukonde government’s minister of justice and keeper of the seals.

According to NBC News, the couple has three biological children throughout the course of their more than two-decade marriage. According to the Chicago Tribune, they also adopted 4 children who belonged to Dikembe’s deceased siblings.

Following in his father’s footsteps, their son Ryan made a commitment to play basketball for Georgetown in the year 2020. Ryan, who plays centre for the Georgetown Hoyas, is a tall 7-foot-2 man.

Dikembe is a well-known humanitarian, just like his wife.

To raise the standard of living in the DR of Congo, he established the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation in 1997.

The foundation is a “multi-million dollar charity that seeks to improve health and education in one of the world’s poorest countries,” according to NBC News.

In honour of his late mother, he inaugurated the Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital in the Congo in 2007. It comprises 150 beds for patients from Kinshasa and an intensive care section.
