The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired defenseman Erik Karlsson, forward Rem Pitlick, forward Dillon Hamaliuk and a 2026 third-round draft pick in a three-team trade involving the San Jose Sharks and Montreal Canadiens.

Erik Karlsson is a professional ice hockey player from Sweden, widely regarded as one of the best defensemen in the National Hockey League (NHL). He was born on May 31, 1990, in Landsbro, Sweden.

Karlsson’s hockey journey began in his native Sweden, where he played for various junior teams before joining the Frolunda HC organization. He quickly rose through the ranks and made his debut in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) during the 2008-2009 season. His exceptional skills on the ice caught the attention of NHL scouts, and he was drafted 15th overall by the Ottawa Senators in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

In the NHL, Karlsson made an immediate impact and quickly became one of the league’s most dynamic and offensively gifted defensemen.
