Australia’s swashbuckling entertainer, Glenn Maxwell has been named a part of the 15-man squad that will represent Australia’s title defence in the Eighth ICC T20 World Cup in 2022 in Australia. The Aaron Finch lead team will depend heavily on time tested campaigners such as Steve Smith, David Warner, Mitchell Starc, Glenn Maxwell amongst others to guide the team to a historic consecutive world cup victory in T20 format. Who is Glenn Maxwell?

Glenn James Maxwell is an International cricketer who primarily represents Australia in limited overs cricket formats of ODIs and T20s. He was born on October 14 1988 to the couple Neil Maxwell and Joy Maxwell in Kew, Australia. He is an all-rounder, featuring as a right-handed batter and a right-arm off break spinner. He is most known for his explosive batting exploits which if has made him an erratic scorer, has certainly managed in buying him fat offers since a decade in IPL events and is widely considered as one of the modern day entertainers of the game. He married his long-time girl friend Vini Raman in 2022.

Maxwell made his ODI debut against Afghanistan in UAE in 2012. His test debut occurred in 2013 in the test match against India at Hyderabad. Maxwell was bought by Mumbai Indians in the 2013 IPL auctions at a very high price of 10 million USD. He later represented erstwhile KXIP in the 2014 season, which was arguably his best season in IPL.

Maxwell started off on a stupendous note, smashing 95 off 43 in his team’s first match with CSK. In the second match, he scored 89 off 45 against RR and also scored a statistically identical 95 off 43 against SRH in the third match, bagging man of the match awards for the third time in a row. Although Maxwell’s later performances in IPL were lukewarm at best, his flashy reputation and fearless game style were enough boosters for KXIP to retain him for the next 6 seasons.

In 2015 ICC World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, he scored 102 off 52 against Sri Lanka, making him the fastest Australian to score a ton in World Cups but also the second fastest ton scorer in World Cup history.

In 2021, after not being retained by KXIP, he was bought by RCB at a record rate of 14.25 crores. While Maxwell has been at the receiving end more often than not for failing to live up to the expectations of fans and franchises alike, his performances in 2021 and 2022 IPL have manifest that he has matured as a player and is delivering more often than not with a consistency seldom associated with him.
