Germany faced a shock 2-1 defeats in the hands of Japan at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Coach Hansi Flick and other players were visibly disappointed. 

Hansi Flick is one of the few Champions league winning coaches at the World Cup. He signed a three-year contract to serve as a manager of the German National team from August 2021, succeeding Joachim Low after the UEFA Euro 2020.   

After completing the second continental table of FC Bayern Munich as a manager, he won UEFA Champions League in August 2020. He is one of the only two managers, with Pep Guardiola to achieve a sextuple with their teams.

Who is Hansi Flick?

Born on February 24, 1965, in Heidelberg West Germany, to father Hans Flick and mother Traudel Flick, he was named Hansi-Dieter Flick. He was raised in Muckenloch, a neighboring town of Neckargemund, Germany.

The coach was married to Silke Flick and is a father of daughters and has two grandchildren.

Flick started playing football at the early age of five. He played as a midfielder for Bayern Munich, winning four Bundesliga titles and one DFV Pokal title. He also played in the 1987 European Final Cup. 

Despite being a German, he never played for the German national football team but was seen in the German under-18 squad in the 1983 UEFA European Under-18 Championship.

Prior to his retirement from professional football due to multiple injuries in 1993, he played for FC Köln. He last played as a footballer for FC Victoria Bammental from 1994 to 2000.

The 57-year-old footballer is a now German professional coach and the manager of the German National Team. Prior to this, he was an assistant coach to the same team under Joachim Low from August 2006 to July 2014.

Flick initiated his managerial career at the age of 31, as player-manager of FC Viktoria Bammental in 1996. Later he worked as an assistant to Giovanni Trapattoni and Lother Matthaus, and sporting coordinator at Red Bull Salzburg. 

Hansi was made the assistant coach for Germany in August 2006. Later in July 2019, he joined Bayern Munich as an assistant coach under Niko Kovač. After Kovač retired in November 2019, he was promoted to interim manager.

On May 25, 2021, Flick was announced to be the manager of the German National team. The German Football Association (GFA) signed a three-year contract with him starting on August 01, 2021.
