Iowa Quarterback Hunter Dekkers has been charged with tampering with records in connection to the ongoing investigation conducted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation into sports gambling activities.

The quarterback for Iowa State University is accused of making 26 bets on different Iowa State sporting events, according to the complaint that was submitted to the Iowa District Court for Story County. This includes the 2021 football game versus Oklahoma State, in which he played no part as a sophomore backup quarterback.

Dekkers was raised on a cattle farm in Hawarden, Iowa. He went to West Sioux High School, where he participated in football, basketball, baseball, and track to display his athletic ability. Dekkers had great success while attending West Sioux High School, posting career highs for passing yards (10,628) and touchdown passes (126). Numerous collegiate schools were impressed by his remarkable play on the football field.

He ultimately chose Iowa State over other colleges including Purdue, Kansas State, and Indiana despite receiving offers to play collegiate football from those schools.

Dekkers started playing college football for Iowa State as a true freshman, participating in three games before sitting out the entire season. He showed his promise during this period by completing five of seven pass attempts for 114 yards and one score while also scoring on the ground. Dekkers took part in four games as a redshirt freshman and backed up main quarterback Brock Purdy. In addition to running four times for 61 yards and one touchdown, he completed 20 of 36 throws for 193 yards and two touchdowns to further highlight his abilities.
