Running back Isaiah Spiller of the Los Angeles Chargers had to leave the Dallas Cowboys’ preseason game on August 21 because of an ankle injury. Head coach Brandon Staley provided an update on Spiller and stated that his injury will be monitered ‘week-to-week’. Because of the injury, he may miss this preseason final match against the New Orleans Saints and the season opener against Las Vegas Raiders. Spiller was battling Joshua Kelley and Larry Rountree for the second running back position with starter Austin Ekeler, before getting injured.

Who is Isaiah Spiller?

Isaiah Spiller is an American Football running back(RB) who will play for the Los Angeles Chargers of the National Football League(NFL). He was drafted in the 4th Round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Spiller was born and raised in Spring, Harris County of Houston, Texas. He attended the Klein Collins High School in Spring. During his schooling career there, he amassed 3587 rushing yards and a total of 53 touchdowns. He played in the Under Armour All-American Game in 2019.

He opted to play for the Texas A&M Aggies football team of Texas A&M University for his collegiate footballing career. In his freshman year, Isaish Spiller started nine out of a possible 13 games. He had 946 rushing yards to go with 174 carries for 10 touchdowns in his freshman campaign. Following this, he was named the freshman All-SEC.

From the beginning of his sophomore year, he started for the team. He kept the faith of his team in promoting him to the position of starter by recording 1036 rushing yards and a total of 9 touchdowns. He was subsequently named on the ALL-SEC Coaches’ First team in 2020.

In 2021, Spiller announced that he would be forfeiting the final year of his college eligibility to move into the Draft for the 2022 season. 

Scouts have graded Spiller, at 6.23, which accounts for the fact that he is projected to eventually become an average starter in the league. His NFL combine performance showed that Spiller has “effective reading and processing for interior lane choice.” This allows him to run lanes regardless of the traffic in the middle of the field and get to his spot for catching the passes from the Quarterback.

He was then drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers as the 123rd overall pick in the fourth round. Isaiah Spiller was the ninth Running back to be selected and 4th from Texas A&M University.
