Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson made headlines on August 18 when it was revealed that the 26-year-old has reached a settlement with the National Football League (NFL) amidst sexual misconduct allegations by more than 20 different women, represented by Attorney Tony Buzbee.

According to reports, Watson has been handed an 11-game suspension in the NFL, along with a fine of $5 million. Mandatory counselling sessions are also being reported as part of the settlement with the NFL.

During his time with the Houston Texans, Watson was accused of sexual misconduct by more than 20 women and the NFL wanted to ban him for at least a year for violating its policy on personal conduct.

“I’m grateful that the disciplinary process has ended and extremely appreciative of the tremendous support I have received throughout my short time with the Browns organization,” a statement issued by Watson read.

“I apologize once again for any pain this situation has caused. I take accountability for the decisions I made,” he added.

The NFL star also revealed that his primary focus in the future is to become the best version of himself, both on and off the pitch along with supporting his teammates in any way possible during his time off the pitch. “I’m excited about what the future holds for me in Cleveland”, Watson concluded.

The settlement between Watson and the NFL will see Watson returning to the fold on December 4 at the earliest.

This is the second disciplinary attempt against Watson, as he was handed another six-game suspension on August 1 by Sue L.Robinson, a retired federal judge, who was appointed by the NFL as an independent disciplinary officer.

The former federal judge found him guilty of violating NFL’s personal conduct policy and termed his behaviour as “egregious” and “predatory”. However, the league felt the suspension was on the lighter side and pushed Watson’s case to Goodle, seeking a longer suspension and bigger fine.

Deshaun Watson has denied any wrongdoing and two Texas grand juries have denied indicting him earlier. He later signed for the Browns in a mega five-year and $230 million contract.
