Mallory Swanson Pugh, USWNT star, suffered a knee injury against Ireland on Saturday. Mallory went down after a tackle late in the first half and immediately waved one arm in the air in distress. Multiple players called for medical help as teammate Rose Lavelle rushed toward her.

She was checked for several minutes on the field before being lifted onto a cart, which carried her off the field. She was admitted to the hospital, a team spokesperson said. Mallory was replaced by Trinity Rodman.

Who is Dansby Swanson?

James Dansby Swanson is Mallory Swanson Pugh’s husband. He is a professional American professional baseball shortstop for the Chicago Cubs of Major League Baseball.

James Dansby Swanson was born on February 11, 1994, to parent Cooter and Nancy. He grew up in Kennesaw, Georgia. He attended Vanderbilt University and played college baseball for the Vanderbilt Commodores. He was picked by the Arizona Diamondbacks as first overall in the 2015 Major League Baseball draft. They traded him to the Atlanta Braves during the 2015-16 off-season.

Swanson made his debut on August 17, 2016, and went 2-4 including his first career hit off a Minnesota Twins pitcher. He hit an inside-the-park home run against the Washington Nationals on September 6, his team’s first such home run since 2001.

Swanson married soccer player Mallory Pugh in late 2022.

He recorded his 500th career hit on June 3, 2021, with a 2-run home run off of Washington Nationals starter Patrick Corbin.

Swanson was named a reserve for the 2022 MLB All-Star Game roster. Swanson hit his 100th career home run against Jacob deGrom on September 30, 2022. He was the only MLB player to start all 162 games of the season. At the end of the season, Swanson won his first Gold Glove Award.
