Former Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad and retired West Indies cricketer Vivian Richards were recently a part of a mini-cycle race at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Both Richards and Miandad are a part of the Pakistan Junior League. The legendary cricketers have been picked as league mentors for the competition. 

The official Twitter handle of the Pakistan Cricket Board shared a video of Miandad and Richards engaging in a cycle race on the sidelines of the competition on October 16. The clip was captioned, “Show us a better video today, we will wait!”

The Pakistan Junior League began on October 6, 2022, and will conclude on October 21, 2022.

Who is Javed Miandad?

Mohammad Javed Miandad is a Pakistani cricket coach, commentator, and former cricketer. He was born on June 12, 1957, in Karachi. Miandad has three brothers, Anwar Miandad, Sohail Miandad, and Bashir Miandad, who played first-class cricket in Pakistan. His nephew Faishal Iqbal is also a Test cricketer. 

Javed Miandad made his Test debut against New Zealand at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on October 9, 1976. In the third match of the same series, he scored a double century (206) at the National Stadium, Karachi. He broke George Headley’s 47-year-old record and became the youngest player- aged 19 years-to score a double century. 

Miandad made his One Day International debut against West Indies at Edgbaston, Birmingham in the 1975 Cricket World Cup. He was ranked 44th among the best cricketers of all time by the ESPN Legends of Cricket. Miandad has served as the captain of the Pakistani team. Miandad is widely known for his historic last ball six against India in 1986 at Sharjah when four runs were required to win. He is also known for his contribution with the bat in the 1992 ICC World Cup

He has remained the coach of the Pakistan cricket team on various occasions, as well as held key positions in the Pakistan Cricket Board. In 2009, Miandad was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.

Javed Miandad married Tahira Saigol, daughter of Khalid Saigol and Farida Hayat in 1981. He has two sons and a daughter.
