Former USC Trojans five-star quarterback prospect JT Daniels has officially retired from football at the age of 23. The decision comes as a result of multiple concussions sustained throughout his career, prompting doctors to advise him to step away from playing. Despite the premature end to his playing career, Daniels is now set to embark on a new journey in the world of coaching.

Who is JT Daniels?

After six seasons of college football, JT Daniels is bidding farewell to the field due to health concerns. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that Daniels received medical advice to retire, leading him to shift his focus towards coaching. Expressing his anticipation for this new role, Daniels shared with ESPN, “I loved playing. I always knew one day I’d coach. I didn’t think it would come this soon. But one day, I knew that’s what I was going to be doing.”

In 2020, he transferred to Georgia with aspirations of becoming the program’s starting quarterback. Unfortunately, an oblique injury hindered his playing time for much of the 2021 season.

Transitioning to West Virginia for the 2022 season, Daniels, a former five-star recruit, amassed 2,107 passing yards and 13 touchdowns in 10 games. Despite the setbacks, he continued to demonstrate his resilience and determination.

The concluding chapter of Daniels’ college career unfolded at Rice, where he threw for 2,443 yards and 21 touchdowns in nine games. Regrettably, a concussion suffered against SMU in early November marked the unfortunate end to his playing days.
