Víctor Franco confirmed that the CSD is going to suspend Luis Rubiales from his position.

The CSD will also file the complaint with the Tribunal Administration of Sport

Who is Luis Rubiales?

Luis Rubiales, born on August 23, 1977, is a Spanish football administrator and former professional footballer. He is most notably recognized for his role as the President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), a position he has held since 2018.

Rubiales had a career as a defender in professional football, playing for clubs like Levante, Alicante, and Xerez, among others. However, his impact on the football world extended beyond his playing days. He transitioned into sports administration and became an influential figure in Spanish football governance.

In 2018, Rubiales was elected as the President of the RFEF, succeeding Ángel María Villar. His presidency has been marked by a focus on reform and addressing various issues within Spanish football. One of his most significant decisions came during the 2018 FIFA World Cup, when he controversially removed then-national team head coach Julen Lopetegui just days before the tournament’s start due to Lopetegui’s decision to negotiate a contract with Real Madrid without informing the federation.

Rubiales has also been involved in negotiations over broadcasting rights, sponsorship deals, and the overall development of Spanish football. His tenure has aimed to bring more transparency and accountability to the RFEF’s operations, and he has been vocal about promoting equality and fighting against corruption in football.

However, Rubiales’s presidency has not been without its share of criticisms and challenges. Some have questioned his leadership style and decisions, and clashes with various football clubs and personalities have sometimes overshadowed his reform efforts. His approach to managing the Spanish national team and relationships with other football institutions have also been points of contention.
