Marcelo Brozovic, the Croatian footballer, plays as a defensive midfielder for Inter Milan and the Croatian National team. 

His Croatian team co-player and defender Josip Juranovic said, “Mateo, Luka and Marcelo are the best Croatia midfield in history. I don’t think it can be repeated. When you pass them the ball it is safer than having your money in the bank,” ahead of World Cup semifinal against Argentina

Who is Marcelo Brozovic?

Marcelo Brozovic was born on November 16, 1992, in Zagreb, Croatia to father Ivan Brozovic and mother Sanja Brozovic. He was raised in the village of Okuje near Velika Gorica in Zagreb along with a brother, Patrick Brozovic and a sister, Ema Brozovic.

His father, Ivan Brozovic is also a football enthusiast who ensures that his family members and close acquaintances are active in the sport. He used to coach his son during the latter’s early years. Marcelo grew up in a middle-class family along with his two siblings, a sister, Ema, and a brother, Patrick.

The Nerazzurri midfielder started playing football in childhood and joined the youth system of the local club Hrvatski Dragovoljac in the Novi Zagreb neighbourhood. Soon he made his professional debut in 2010 with the Dragovoljac club. Brozovic joined NK Lokomotiva in 2011, where he scored four times to help the club achieve a significant mid-table position. Inter Milan signed him on loan in 2015 with a number 77 shirt. 

Brozovic appeared with Croatia for the under-18, under-19, under-20 and under-21 sides. He was taken into Niko Kovac’s squad in FIFA World Cup 2014. Since then, he became a regular starter alongside Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic.

The 30-year-old footballer married his girlfriend Sivija Lihtar in 2016. The couple is parenting two kids, a daughter, Aurora, born a year after marriage, and a son, Rafael, born in 2019.
