Brazilian football legend Pele died in Sau Paulo after a long battle with colon cancer. He was 82 years old. The news of his death was confirmed by his family members.

According to reports, his wife Marcia Aoki and a caregiver were with him when he was admitted to Albert Einstein hospital. Pele, who was undergoing treatment for metastatic cancer, had been facing health issues for a few years.

Earlier, medical staff at the Einstein confirmed his condition of anasarca (general swelling), an edemigemic syndrome (general edema) and even identified “decompensated heart failure.”

Doctors at the hospital had said that the 82-year-old’s body was not been responding to chemotherapy.

Who is Marcia Aoki?

Marcia Aoki is the third wife of Pelé, whose original name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento. She was born in 1966 and is 56 years old. She is a Japanese-born Brazilian entrepreneur who works as a medical equipment supplier. 

Pele and Aoki started dating in 2010 after they first met in the mid-1980s in New York, before meeting again in 2008. At the age of 73, Pele expressed his intention of getting married to Aoki, who was 41-year-old at the time. They married in July 2016.

Aoki was born to Paulo Aoki and Isaura Aoki. Her parents are pediatricians and successful entrepreneurs. She has a brother named Carlos Alberto Aoki.

Aoki and Pele don’t have kids together. However, Pelé has seven children from his previous marriages and affairs.

Pele was previously married to Rosemeri dos Reis Cholbi. They had two daughters and one son: Kelly Cristina (born 13 January 1967), Jennifer (b. 1978), and their son Edson. The couple divorced in 1982. 

In April 1994, Pele married psychologist Assíria Lemos Seixas, who gave birth on September 28 1996 to twins Joshua and Celeste through fertility treatments. The couple divorced in 2008.
