Shemy Schembechler, the Assistant Director of Football Recruiting with the Michigan Wolverines, resigned on Saturday. He is the son of legendary coach Bo Schembechler.
Schembechler was hiring was announced on Wednesday. He has worked for more than 20 years as an NFL scout.
The assistant director’s departure came amid scrutiny of offensive material – a racist tweet- being liked from his Twitter account.
“We are aware of some comments and likes on social media that have caused concern and pain for individuals in our community,” Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh and athletic director Warde Manuel said in a joint statement.

“Michigan Athletics is fully committed to a place where our coaches, staff and student-athletes feel welcome and where we fully support the University’s and Athletic Department’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.”
Schembechler’s Twitter account has been deactivated.
This week, several Twitter users shared screenshots that suggested that Schembechler’s account allegedly liked racist tweets.

He has been a scout for the Chicago Bears, Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle Seahawks and Las Vegas Raiders. He worked with the Washington football organization more than a decade.
Shemy Schembechler’s father Bo was a legendary coach of the Wolverines. He coached from 1969 to 1989 and won as many as 13 Big Ten championships. Shemmy worked from the program as a graduate assistant back in 1993.
